Transfer Switch Conversion
In 2019, an existing IEA customer operating a local grocery store wanted the current generator transfer switch modified from open (break before make) to closed (make before break) transition to enable a seamless transition when shifting back and forth from the local utility power to the generator.
IEA worked with controls contractors to install and program a Woodward digital transfer switch controller. Also existing wiring was modified the interconnecting interlock cable between the transfer switch breakers was removed to enable the closed transfer modification.
The project took less than one day on-site to install and costs ~$20,000 to complete. Significantly less in construction time, expense, and outage time, than if the transfer switch were replaced in its entirety to accomplish the closed transition.
